TLDR: Best place for tundra resources and home? The Crevice can be a fun spot if you like caves. Personally, I wouldn't build a base near star metal just to get star metal. I'd build a map room by the obelisk there and check back every so often. Of course this all depends what kind of server you're playing on.

General. Currently our main base is at Godsclaw Passage but we'd like to make a base closer to an obelisk. We were thinking near the sinkhole due to its central location but I've been reading on here that that doesn't really matter and I guess with an obelisk it doesn't. Plus it looks like the purge level is lower there and we enjoy a good purge.

I will post a screenshot of an island which will make an excellent location for a first base. I usually start a base on an island near the center along the river.
